Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic, public speaker and Canadian. Feminist Frequency is a channel that hosts videos, commentaries and analysis of how popular culture depicts women. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and a prestigious feminist for more than a decade. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource for education that examines women's roles in pop culture narratives, is her brainchild. She also serves as the director of operations. As well as working to bring awareness to the harassment and targeted attacks on women, others of minority groups in the online world, she is determined to break down stereotypes that are associated with popular culture. Sarkeesian is a graduate in the field of political and social thought at York University. As a public speaker, she is well-known and has spoken at TEDxWomenXOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was interested in gender issues and feminism at a young time. In 2009, when she was still studying at university, she created the Feminist Frequency site. The ambitious lady planned to create a web series that would examine the gender roles in video games. She found herself the target of an online harassment campaign. This attack was not enough to stop her. It actually strengthened her commitment as a feminist and media critique. She has won numerous awards in recognition of her many prominent contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for many years and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. This non-profit educational organization studies women's roles in pop culture narratives.
